Group Captain Henry Ivan Hanmer DFC born 1893 Rochester, Kent - Officers Training Corps at Gresham School, Holt, Norfok - grazier who enlisted at Holsworthy NSW as Trooper in 6th Light Horse Regiment of Australian Imperial Force 23 Nov 1914 and embarked for actve service abroad 21 Dec 1914 - decommissioned in Cairo 18 Apr 1915 and granted temporary commission in Imperial Army 19 Apr 1915 - full commission 22 Jan 1917 - Ft Lt RAF in Jan 1922 - Squadron Leader at RAF Duxford Oct 1923 - died 1984 Newark Nottinghamshire - Also from another source, HANMER, Wing Commander Henry Ivan D.F.C., R.A.F.; Commanding No. 503 (County of Lincoln) (Bomber) Squadron, since 1931; Transferred as observer from South Staffs. Regt. to R.F.C., 1916; learnt to fly, 1916; served in Middle East and Palestine, 191821; permanent commission as Flight Lieut. 1919; Staff Officer to Expedition surveying and establishing Ramadi Air Route, 1921; passed R.A.F. Staff College, 1928; promoted to present rank, 1931. Also R.A.F., Waddington, nr. Lincoln
