Christopher Miles was educated at Winchester College (1953-7) and studied film direction at the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques, Paris (1961-2). His early films included Academy award nominated short The Six Sided Triangle (1963) and feature films Up Jumped A Swagman (1965) and The Virgin and the Gypsy (1970).
