Savannah Marshall is Britain's first women's amateur boxing World Champion. With the inclusion of women's boxing in the Olympic Games for the first time in 2012, Marshall was one of six elite women selected to receive funding when the women's Olympic boxing programme began in 2010. She won a silver medal in the 69kg welterweight category at the 2010 World Championships before moving to the Olympic 75kg weight class at the start of 2011. Marshall won the World Championship middleweight title in May 2012 and competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games. In May 2016 she won bronze in the World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.
