Ray Haggan(1939-), Swimming coach, London 2012 Olympics
Sitter in 1 portrait
Ray Haggan was the 2010 winner of BT's Everyday People on the Road to 2012 competition. BT encouraged members of the public to nominate someone who was contributing behind the scenes, without wide public recognition, to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Seventy-year-old Ray Haggan has worked with the Anaconda Swimming Club for twenty-five years. As the voluntary Competition Secretary his role involves choosing the teams and driving them to competitions. His work has contributed to the growth and success of the club, saving it from near closure to a swelling membership of over 600. This now includes thirty swimmers competing in Nationals as well as two former members who were earmarked for Olympic potential.
