Eleanor Simmonds was born with achondroplasia (dwarfism) and began swimming when she was five. She now competes in multiple events, and is world champion and a world record holder. Aged thirteen Simmonds became the youngest-ever individual Paralympic or Olympic gold medalist, winning the 100m and 400m Freestyle swimming events in Beijing 2008. At the London 2012 Paralympic Games she won gold medals in the 200m Individual Medley and 400m Freestyle, breaking the world record, as well as silver in the 100m and bronze in the 50m Freestyle events.
