Sydney Linton

(1841-1894), Bishop of Riverina, Australia

Sitter in 1 portrait
Born and educated in Oxford, Linton was first ordained in 1867. After his consecration in 1884, Linton and his family sailed for Australia in 1885 to take up his position of Bishop of Riverina in Hay, New South Wales. Enthusiastic about meeting directly with the people of his diocese, he frequently travelled across the province to spread Christianity. Linton was also instrumental in setting up the first synod for the Church of England in Australia in 1887.
