South London Press 5th May 1944:
'Two more posters, completing the series of six portraits of public service employees, appear on Underground stations. They show a woman porter and an N.F.S. mobile driver, and are the work of Mr Eric Kennington.....The N.F.S. driver is Desiree Ellinger, for many years a well-known singer in musical comedy. She was at the wheel of her van during the blitz on London, particularly in the Docks area, where she transported much-needed refreshment to the heroic firemen.'

She was born in 1893 (7 October according to 'Who's Who in the Theatre'). The year can be confirmed by birth registrations. She was born as Dorothy Sophie Ellinger, as confirmed by the registration details of the two marriages she cites in 'Who's Who in the Theatre'..
