Christopher Guy Bomford was born on 21st July 1938 in India, the son of Colonel (later Brigadier) Guy Bomford and Annette Isolde (nee Brown). He was educated at Cheltenham College and the R.M.A Sandhurst. A keen Oarsman, he rowed for both these and later for the Royal Chester R.C. He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery and served in Aden and Hong Kong particularly, retiring as a Captain in 1969 He then worked in the City in a number of merchant banks. He was a Liveryman Company of Haberdashers'. He retired in 2001 but sadly died of cancer in 2003. In 1971 he married Philippa Sharpley and they lived thereafter in Wallingford where he was well-known especially in the Rowing club. He leaves three children Sophie (md to Richard Hammond), Lucinda (md to Nick Thomas) and Guy (md to Joey Mahood), all three of whom have children.
