Robin was born on 28th April 1944 at Bromley Maternity Hospital. His mother left him at the hospital and he was adopted by Mr and Mrs Leslie Hulf. He was brought up as one of the family with two older sisters, Cordelia and Imogen and brother Oliver in Pratt's Bottom where he attended the local primary school. As a teen-ager he attended Foot's Cray Secondary Technical School. On leaving school he joined the army, and the portraits were taken on the occasion of his engagement to Penelope Bingham in 1970. They married on the 15th August 1970 and had two children, Camilla and Toby Robin served in the King's Own Scottish Borderer's. After leaving the army in 1994 Robin became a political advisor. In November 2015, Robin died of acute myeloid leukaemia.
