Rear Admiral John Bayley Holt CB. John Bayley Holt was born on 1st June 1912 in Manchester. He joined the Royal Navy in 1941 and, as a qualified electrical engineer, was engaged on degaussing and minesweeping research and development at Helensburgh. He served on HMS Cumberland in 1953/54. He was promoted to Captain in 1958 and from 1961 - 63 was the Captain of HMS Ariel at Lee-on-the- Solent, Hampshire. He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1967 and was the Director-General Aircraft (Naval) from 1967-70. He retired from the Navy in 1970 and spent the remainder of his life at his home in Thursley, Surrey. He was married in 1940 to Olga Esme Creake and had three daughters. He died on 28th April 1995.
