Alan Rowland Lingard Escombe (3rd May 1921-15th August 2009) served in WW11 in The West Somerset Yeomanry fighting in the battle for Normandy and through to Brussels. At the end of the War he became a gunnery instructor at Larkhill. He then returned to the family shipping agents, Escombe McGrath & Co. Ltd, of which his father was Chairman, as was his Great Grandfather, Rowland Escombe, A.R.L. Escombe (known as Rowland) became Chairman of Escombe McGrath in 1965. He joined the board of P&OSNCo in 1978/1979 as a Director with responsibility for P&O in Australia and New Zealand. He retired in 1984.
