Anna Mahler
(1904-1988), Austrian sculptor; daughter of Gustav MahlerSitter in 1 portrait
After studying art in Europe during the 1920s and sculpture with Fritz Wotruba in 1930, Mahler became an established sculptor and was awarded the Grand Prix in Paris in 1937. She worked in stone and also produced bronze heads of many notable musicians and composers. Mahler moved to London from Austria in 1939, and set up a studio in Hampstead. In 1949 the Kenneth Graham Gallery in London exhibited her sketches and busts, and in 1950, a book of her work was published by Paul Zsolnay.
