Somalian-born Farah came to England aged eight, where his athletic talent was first identified by his PE Teacher, Alan Watkinson. At the London 2012 Olympic Games, he won gold medals for both the 5,000 and 10,000 metres races, repeating this achievement at the European Championships in Zürich (2014) and the World Championships in Moscow (2013) and Beijing (2015). He is the most decorated athlete in British history, with ten global titles. He has won the European Athlete of the Year award three times and the British Athletics Writers Association British Athlete of the Year award six times. Awarded a CBE (2013) and a Knighthood (2017) for services to athletics, he was named Sports Personality of the Year 2017.
