As well as being Lord Mayor of London he also held the position of Lord Provost of Edinburgh. He is the only person to this day to have held both positions of Lord Provost of Edinburgh and Lord Mayor of London
He gave the proclamation of accession to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II in Edinburgh.
