Jean Venables

A Civil Engineer and Environmentalist, Venables was awarded an OBE in 2004 for her services towards flood risk management. In 2009 she became the first woman President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in the institution's 190-year history. During her tenure Venables improved the institute's links with the government and raised the profile of those in the construction industry. Venables also sought to encourage the government to develop long-term strategic plans for infrastructure development. In 2010 Venables was awarded a CBE in recognition of her Presidency of the ICE.
