She was the wife of James Simpson Carson and was a collector of antiques, including a Madonna and Child from the circle of Van Eyck (recently acquired by Bruges Museum) and formerly in the collection of Lucien Bonaparte. She also collected items with historical associations including "Oliver Cromwell's shoes" (pinch of salt required). The Simpson Carson family owned the Albion sugar plantation in Jamaica, which was sold to pay debts in 1889. She lived in 1909 at 33 Gloucester Place off Portman Square when she lent the Madonna to the Burlington Magazine Exhibition.
