Bear Grylls

(1974-), Adventurer; Chief Scout; TV presenter

Sitter in 1 portrait
Son of MP Sir Michael Grylls and Lady Grylls, Edward Michael 'Bear' Grylls learned to climb and sail from an early age. While serving in the Territorial Army he suffered a parachute accident, however this did not stop him becoming one of the youngest people to climb Everest in 1998 - fulfilling a childhood dream. Other fundraising expeditions include crossing the North Atlantic in a rigid-inflatable boat (2003) and a Journey in Antarctica (2008). He is best known through his television series including Born Survivor (Man Vs Wild , 2006), Bear's Wild Weekend (2011) and Escape from Hell (2013). At 35 he became the youngest ever Chief Scout, and in 2013 was made an honorary Lieutenant-Commander in the Royal Navy.
