Kin Foo(died 1871), First wife of Chang Woo Gow (Chang Yu Sing)
Sitter in 1 portrait
Chinese-born Kin Foo also known as 'Golden Lily' was the first wife of Chang Woo Gow. There is speculation as to whether she was his real wife or a hired actress who was infact his stage wife, perhaps because the 'couple' had no children. She toured Europe, the US and Australia with 'The Chinese Giant' often appearing in publicity photographs with him, sometimes accompanied by a hired Chinese dwarf called Chung Mow who was employed to further accentuate the huge stature of 'The Chinese Giant'. She died in Australia in 1871, her age at the time is uncertain but her husband was 31 when he became a 'widower'. Whilst still in Australia, Chang Woo Gow met and married a Liverpudlian lady Catherine Santley, this would further suggest that he did not mourn the loss of his first wife because their marriage may have been one of convenience for the benefit of their audiences.
