Full details of his life in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography...Sir James was a prisoner of War for 5 years furing the Second World War, as a doctor attached to,the Rifle Brigade, he was captured in Calais in May 1940
After the war , he was instrumental in setting up the National Health Service, working closely with the then Health Minister, Kenneth Robinson
He was knighted for services to medicing haven been Chairman of the General Medical Committee and susequently, Chairman of the British Medical Association
