Australian-born Peter Tatchell is a writer and prominent campaigner for LGBT+ and human rights. He moved to London in 1971, where he helped found the AIDS activist group ACT UP London in 1989, and the LGBT direct action organisation OutRage! in 1990. He came to prominence in 1994 when OutRage! notoriously alleged the homosexuality of ten Church of England bishops, leading to Tatchell's denunciation in the press as a 'homosexual terrorist'. In 1999 he attempted a citizen's arrest of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe for human rights violations, during Mugabe's visit to London.
