Jamal Edwards

(1990-2022), Digital entrepreneur

Sitter in 1 portrait
Inspired by the Christmas gift of a video camera, Jamal Edwards set up his YouTube channel SBTV at the age of 15, which provided a much-needed platform for emerging grime musicians, such as Dizzee Rascal, Stormzy, Tinchy Stryder and later, pop singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. The channel proved immensely popular with young audiences and Edwards used his entrepreneurial spirit to make it financially profitable from advertising revenues, expanding it into a multi-faceted media platform. At the age of 24, he was awarded an MBE for his services to music, and later became an ambassador for Creative Entrepreneurs, an online initiative by Arts Council England, as well as for the Prince's Trust. In 2020 he founded the youth work charity Jamal Edwards Delve to provide better opportunities for young people in Ealing.
