Roger Deakins

Cinematographer Roger Deakins is one of cinema's masters of light and space. As director of photography, Deakins guides the look and feel of a film, making artistic and technical decisions around colour, camera angles and lighting. Over a career of forty years, Deakins has received fourteen Academy Award nominations. Celebrated works include The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Fargo (1996), Skyfall (2012) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), for which he won the Oscar for Best Cinematography. Born in Torquay, Devon, Deakins attended the Bath School of Art and Design, where he discovered photography before graduating from the National Film and Television School.
