Harold Jones
(1904-1992), Artist, illustrator and writerSitter in 1 portrait
Jones is best known as a highly original children's illustrator and author. In 1954 the British Library Association awarded him the Special Commendation for the Carnegie Medal, which prompted the establishment of a separate award specifically for children's illustrators. Jones' archive is held by the Seven Stories National Centre for Children's Literature in Newcastle. Jones had been Cosman's teacher at the Slade in the 1940s.
