Berthold Viertel

Austrian-born Jewish director Viertel emigrated to London in 1933. He made a significant contribution to British cinema during the Thirties; Christopher Isherwood's novel Prater Violet is based on the author's experience of screenwriting with Viertel for film production company Gaumont-British.
