Bert Stern

American photographer who was self-taught in photography. He was an assistant to art director Hershel Bramson of Flair magazine in 1948 before serving as a movie cameraman in the United States Army in Japan from 1951 to 1953. In 1959 he established his own photographic studio in New York. He worked as a freelance photographer for magazines such as Look, Life, Holiday, Vogue and Glamour from the 1960s until his retirement in the mid 1970s.
