Mrs. Margaret Francis (nee Perry)

30 December 2018, 14:34

Some years ago I researched my family history and found out that Rhoda Madge Beasley was my mother’s cousin (Rhoda’s father was my grandmother’s brother). My grandmother was Harriet Beasley. Rhoda was born on 2/3/1911 and was killed in a car crash on 16/12/1935. As a child I remember my mother showing me a newspaper cutting about this and told me she was a model with a nickname, which after many years I forgot. I made a family tree and discovered her despite not having details of her name and relationship. Her nickname was “Tiny”. She was the granddaughter of Thomas Beasley (born 1862 and died aged 90). He was the famous Swordsmith who worked for The Wilkinson Sword Co. Ltd. and forged the Stalingrad Sword (he was 83), a gift from King George V1 presented to Stalin by Churchill at the Yalta Conference. He joined Wilkinson in1884 and worked there for 58 years. He also forged the Kitchener and Victoria Swords and is still a spearhead in the company’s advertising campaign. Also, he had 23 children. One of his sons, Archibald George, was Rhoda’s father and he married her mother, Rhoda Gibbs on 25/9/1908. Her father was born in Battersea 13/1/1889 and died 23/1/1946 and her mother was born 8/2/1892 and died in 1972. I have no details of the car crash but wish I knew how it happened. I hope this information is of interest to you.
