Sir William Menzies Coldstream

(1908-1987), Painter

Sitter in 21 portraits
Realist painter Coldstream established the influential Euston Road School with Claude Rogers and Victor Pasmore in 1937. Later Professor of Fine Art at the Slade School of Fine Art and Chairman of the National Advisory Council on Art Education (1958-71), Coldstream reshaped British art education. Appointed CBE in 1952, and knighted in 1956, he enjoyed his first major retrospective at the South London Art Gallery in 1962, which toured the UK extensively.
