Labelled a constructivist early in his career; Stirling later developed an eclectic mix of classicism and modernism expressed most eloquently in the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart (1977-83) and the Tate's Clore Gallery (1982-6). With Norman Foster and Richard Rogers he is considered one of the most eminent British architects of the period.
