One of Beaton's childhood heroines who inspired his notion of the ideal woman. She had one of the longest careers in show business history, making her London stage debut in 1910 in Pinero's The Cabinet Maker and her last performance in 1981, playing Mrs Higgins in My Fair Lady on Broadway at the age of 92.
