Hilda Trevelyan (Hilda Marie Antoinette Anna Tucker)

(1877 or 1880-1959), Actress

Sitter in 22 portraits
Actress. Born in Hackney, Trevelyan made her first stage appearance at the age of twelve and, in 1899, toured in The Little Minister by J.M. Barrie, a dramatist who profoundly influenced her long career. Trevelyan specialised in the role of appealing waif or buoyant soubrette, charming audiences with a mixture of comedy and pathos. In December 1904, Barrie cast her in her most famous part: Wendy in Peter Pan, a role she performed on more than 900 occasions. After this she became in the public imagination 'the Barrie actress', appearing in ten other Barrie parts until her retirement in 1939.
