Ion Swinley
(1891-1937), ActorSitter in 1 portrait
Swinley performed with the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre Stratford during the First World War. He appeared in the Restoration revivals at the Lyric, Hammersmith in the early 1920s and as a leading man with the Old Vic Company, 1923-4. Film appearances included Trilby (1914) and Dickens's Bleak House (1920). In 1937 he appeared in a short extract from As You Like It in the first television broadcast of part of a Shakespeare play.
