John Blades was a famous Regency glassmaker, whose showrooms were on Ludgate Hill. His clients included the Prince Regent and the Shah of Persia and a chandelier by him is in Spencer House, London. He is known in south London because the estate he put together in the 1800s eventually turned into Brockwell Park, one of Lambeth's greatest parks. His 1811-13 villa designed by David Riddall Roper, still stands. He is buried where he got married, St Bride's, Fleet Street, where his large memorial stone can be seen in the crypt.
