Ludwig van Beethoven
(1770-1827), ComposerSitter in 3 portraits
Prolific German composer whose symphonies, concertos, piano and choral music dominated the Romantic age. Beethoven studied under Joseph Haydn in Vienna before making his public debut as a virtuoso piano player in 1795. Despite the onset of deafness from 1801 Beethoven continued to compose until his death, producing some of his greatest work in his final years.
