The original by Lawrence is in the archive at Aviva - [email protected]. The plaque originally with the painting says it was painted in 1813 by Sir Thomas Lawrence president of the Royal Academy following a resolution of the board of the Hand in Hand Fire and Life Insurance Society that it be hung up in the court room to "perpetuate the remembrance of his long services and ardent zeal for the interest of the society". Rouse was elected secretary on 14 May 1776 and died on 09 March 1814 aged 72. He was replaced as Secretary by his son Benjamin Rouse elected 05 April 1814 who died 20 February 1829 aged 48.
