Before becoming a Labour MP Noel-Baker was an academic and a middle distance runner. He competed in the Olympic games in Stockholm in 1912 and won silver in the 1500m at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. A campaigner for nuclear disarmament he was awarded the Nobel Peace Price in 1959.
