Welsh-born actress began her career working in repertory in Swansea with fellow actors Kenneth Williams and Richard Burton. Starred in films from the mid 1950s. Had major success in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960) and an Oscar-nominated role in This Sporting Life (1963). The breakdown of her marriage to Rex Harrison (1962-71) and alcoholism ruined her career and led to her suicide.
