Moore found fame as Simon Templar in the popular television series The Saint (1962-8). In 1972, after Moore had completed the successful series The Persuaders! (1971), he was approached to take on the part of James Bond. After starring in seven Bond films he retired from the role in 1985 to focus on humanitarian work. Moore was a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF.
