Sir Arthur Thomas Sloggett

Arthur Sloggett was educated at King's College, London before entering the army as a surgeon. Between 1911 and 1914 he served as Director of Medical Services in India and, in 1914, he went to France as Director of Medical Services on the Western Front (1914-18). Sloggett provided inspiring leadership to meet the new challenges of trench warfare, contributing to disease prevention, sanitation and effective care of wounded soldiers. During the course of the war, he was mentioned in dispatches seven times. Sloggett was colonel of the Royal Army Medical Corps from 1921 until 1928.
