(1906-1976), Film producer and director

Film director. Produced and directed films including Bank Holiday (1938), A Girl Must Live (1939), Kipps (1941), The Young Mr Pitt (1942) and The Fallen Idol (1948). Best known for his version of Graham Greene's novel The Third Man (1949). Post-war success continued with Our Man in Havana (1959) and Academy Award winning Oliver! (1968).
