My Grandpa Hubert Messer was born in Tottenham then moved to Southend on sea, later to Lincolnshire. His father was a stockbroker's clerk, William James Messer. His Grandfather was a poor law officer in Marylebone, William Messer. was told that Frederick was a French polisher and worked with other people who could not afford Dr's bills, so he suggested putting money, a small amount from our wages every week and then if one of us or a family member is ill The Dr's fee will be covered. What a brilliant idea, he apparently was a friend of Bevan who also thought about it........Frederick Messer is related to me through my father's line. The NHS was to be from the cradle to the grave!!! I think Frederick said this could work for everyone in the UK. I am proud of my ancestor. My memory is not brilliant, but I have my grandfather's birth certificate if you want to research further.
