Tom Hawkyard worked at British Vogue and was Picture Editor at the Daily Telegraph Magazine in 1974 (and probably earlier). He left the magazine at the beginning of 1977. Tom then joined 3M. The 1952 Deakin portrait that you have here: was taken in the Vogue studio, you cite Tom as an assistant. I'm not sure if Tom ever worked at The Times. However, Bryan Wharton was a Sunday Times photographer. See Wharton's Times obituary here:

Update: Tom Hawkyard was Picture Editor at The Daily Telegraph Magazine and its successor the Telegraph Sunday Magazine. After leaving the Telegraph Sunday Magazine in 1977 Tom worked for The Photographer and subsequently joined 3M.
