Adolphus Williamson Howells

(1866-1938), Assistant Bishop, Lagos Diocese

Assistant Bishop of the Lagos Diocese in Nigeria from 1933. Howells was educated at the Training Institution, Lagos and the Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone and received a BA and Licentiate in Theology in 1893. Howells became a deacon in 1897 and a priest in 1899. His term as Pastor of St John's Church, Aroyla,1902-18 was followed as First Vicar Of Christ Church Pro-Cathedral,1919. Was consecrated at St Paul's Canterbury in l920 for the Delta Pastorate Church,1920-33, before transferring to Lagos. Wrote books on Goombay Dance and Oruka Igbeyawo.
