First President and Commander-in Chief of the State of Uganda from 1963. Educated in Uganda and Magdalene College, Cambridge. As the 36th Kabaka of Buganda Sir Frederick Mutesa became a symbol of the independent people of Buganda. Exiled to Britain in 1966, where he was known as 'King Freddie'. Published his memoirs The Desecration of My Kingdom in 1967.

Sir Edward Frederick William David Walugembe Mutebi Luwangula Mutesa II, Kabaka of Buganda, was also the first African to become a Grenadier Guard.
