Alexander Plunket Greene

(1932-1990), Fashion entrepreneur; husband of Mary Quant

Sitter in 6 portraits
Fashion entrepreneur and husband of Mary Quant. Plunket Greene and his wife helped to revolutionise the British fashion scene in the 1960s. Together with their friend Archie McNair, Plunket Greene and Quant opened Bazaar in 1955, a fashion boutique on King's Road, Chelsea. They sold Quant's designs and devised eye-catching window displays. Bazaar was one of the first shops to cater for the young, selling affordable clothes made of simple shapes and vibrant colours. In 1963 Plunket Green and Quant launched the label Ginger Group a lower priced line for the mass market and later expanded their company to the United States.
