Principally involved with music for the stage, his opera Siren Song was premiered at the Almeida Theatre (1994). Incidental music includes Mother Courage at the Royal National Theatre (1996) and Medea and Hamlet for the Almeida. In Search of Angels (1955), one of three community operas, was performed by a huge cast in Peterborough Cathedral and shopping precinct.
