John Arden
(1930-2012), PlaywrightSitter in 1 portrait
Arden was one of the major writers of the English Stage Company's first decade. His first play, The Waters of Babylon (1957) was shown there as a Sunday production without décor. This was followed by Live like Pigs (1958), Serjeant Musgrave's Dance (1959) and The Happy Haven (1960). Arden's Marxist views have distanced him from mainstream theatre since.
