Albert Edward ('Eddie') Calvert
(1922-1978), TrumpeterSitter in 2 portraits
Trumpeter. Born in Preston, Lancashire where he joined the Preston Town Silver Band at the age of 11. In the 1940s played with Billy Ternet and Geraldo before forming his own group. In the 1953 he had a number one hit with O Mein Papa and became known as The Man with the Golden Trumpet. Other major hits include a second number one Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White (April 1955), Stranger in Paradise, John and Julie, Zambesi (1956) and Mandy (1958). In 1968 emigrated to South Africa.
