My great great maternal uncle was sir Alexander Richardson. He was born in Dumbarton. He was a naval architect and conservative mp in Gravesend. He was knighted. I don't know if this was due to his contribution to politics and or naval architecture.

My maternal grandmother was a Richardson of this family.She had sisters,Barbara,Meg and Polly.younger generation included John who served apprenticeship with William Denny then became Chief Engineer with British India before joining prison service and becoming Senior Engineer with HM Prisons.Another member of family was Engineer Superintendent with Irrawaddy Flotilla Company based in Rangoon,Burma but had to leave when Burma gained independence in 1948. He was James Richardson.
