Harry Goodwin

(1924-2013), Photographer

Sitter in 1 portrait
Artist associated with 11 portraits
Born in Manchester. At nineteen, Goodwin was called up to join the RAF. For seven years he travelled, taking photographs. His first images to be published, once back in England, were glamour shots of a beauty pageant, used on the front page of the Daily Mirror. In 1964 he worked as a scene shifter at the BBC and from here he started taking pictures of presenters and musicians such as Val Doonican, Ken Dodd and Harry Worth, which were used in the Radio Times. In 1964 the new music show Top of the Pops commissioned him to take stills for the show, used to illustrate the chart countdown. Goodwin worked on the show for nine years. From 1973 onwards he concentrated on photographing footballers.
