Cardiff-born comedian, writer, actor, Jones joined the theatrical Footlights Club at Cambridge University and began his career as a trainee producer at BBC radio. Rhys Jones came to wider attention in the early 1980s appearing in sketch shows Not the Nine O'Clock News and Alas Smith and Jones along with his comedy partner Mel Smith. With Smith, he founded television production company Talkback Productions in 1981, whose numerous successful comedies have included Smack the Pony (1999-2002) and I'm Alan Partridge (1997-2002). Rhys Jones also works as a television presenter and writer.
